The Imam Abdullah Haron Education Trust (IAHET) is well on its way towards achieving its goal

Mustaq Brey resigns from the IAHET Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Imam Abdullah Haron Education Trust (IAHET) has accepted the resignation of Mustaq Brey, one of its members, at a BoT meeting held on 21 February 2019.

Mr. Brey, who was a founding member of the Trust in 2005, served as chairperson for 11 years before stepping down in 2016 to allow for handing over the baton to new leadership in the form of Farzana Mahomed to take the organisation forward.

He played an integral role in the growth and development of the Trust in the 13 and-a-half-years of its existence.

The IAHET had, by the end of the 2018 programme, provided partial bursaries worth over R2.6 million to 373 tertiary level students.

By the end of 2018, the Trust had also spent more than R2.5 million on its Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme, which is run in marginalised communities like Langa, Gugulethu, Bonteheuwel and Valhalla Park.

The programme, which is run in conjunction with Grassroots Educare Trust, the Centre for Early Childhood Development (CECD) and the Foundation for Community Work (FCW), all highly respected ECD agencies, has already empowered 1200 children and 600 parents who have been trained in workshops.

During his tenure as chairperson and also as a member of the BoT Mr. Brey contributed unselfishly to all these projects in both his personal and professional capacities.

The Board of Trustees wishes to thank Mr. Brey for the role he has played in establishing and growing the IAHET into its present position of strength and for his selfless commitment to achieving the Trust’s objectives of honouring the legacy of the late Imam Abdullah Haron.
