Jumu’ah Tribute to Imam Haron
The heritage of South Africa’s Muslim community is one of a noble struggle against oppression and injustice.
Addressing the congregation of Islamia Masjid in Lansdowne during the weekly Friday sermon on 27 September, the 50th anniversary of the death in detention of Imam Abdullah Haron, Shaykh Sa’dullah Khan paid tribute to the crucial and selfless role played by giants like Shaykh Yusuf of Macassar through Tuang Guru and Imam Haron.
“Our heritage is the spirit of ubuntu or ‘humanity to others’, about being compassionate; about deepening our understanding of our society while simultaneously empathizing with the challenges faced by those around us. It is about implementing the Golden Rule, of loving for others what we love for ourselves. It is about what the Qur’an refers to as. “justice and goodness.”
