Governors

The Imam Abdullah Haron Education Trust (IAHET) was established to promote the late Imam Haron’s vision of empowering marginalised groups and individuals through education. The IAHET was established in September 2005 by volunteers committed to honouring the legacy of Imam Haron.

The Board of Governors run the day-to-day operations of the trust.

Imam Haron was small in physical size but massive in moral stature. A valiant voice against the oppression of the racist apartheid regime his words still echo in the memories of freedom fighters.

Majal joins IAHET

The IAHET welcomes Thabied Majal to our Board of Trustees (BoT) and Board of Governors (BoG)

Mr Majal, a long-time associate of the Trust through sponsoring prizes for the annual Golf Day, was officially welcomed to the BoT at their quarterly meeting in July.

We are honoured to have someone of Mr Majal’s stature and experience join us particularly at a time when we are preparing to grow the trust to the next level. His considerable experience in marketing will stand us in good stead,” said IAHET chairperson, Farzana Mahomed.

Mr Majal is currently Corporate Development Executive at Sanlam, a position he has held since January 2011. A member of the Sanlam Emerging Markets executive, he is the company’s representative director on the boards of its Tanzania, Mozambique and Uganda subsidiaries.

Since joining Sanlam 15 years ago, he also served as executive in the office of the Group CEO as well as Marketing Head of Institutional Markets.
Prior to joining the insurance giant at the end of 2002, Mr Majal worked as a management consultant for a divserse cross section of clients with specific emphasis on marketing, sales and business strategy, strategic planning as well as Black Economic Empowerment.

After graduating with a BSc from the University of Cape Town in 1984, he spent 16 years with Warner Lambert pharmaceutical company, rising to Director of Global Marketing Planning at the company’s head office in New Jersey, USA.
