2018 Golf Day Report
Putting for Bursaries
The annual Imam Haron Education Trust (IAHET) Corporate Golf Day, which took
place in near perfect weather at the Royal Cape Golf Club on 11 April 2018,
surpassed expectations by raising a record amount of R290 385.
Eleven four-ball teams, representing a wide variety of well-known corporates
including Brimstone, Sea Harvest, Oceana, Nedbank, Sanlam, the Mushaky Family
Trust, Ernst and Young, Deloitte, Equites, Foord and Stadio all participated in what
has become a regular event on the RCGC’s golfing calendar.
Prizes were donated by Sanlam, Eyesave and House of Monatic while FPG Property
Group provided the golf shirts and Brimstone the golf caps.
Max Brozin Investments, Coronation, Quality Beverages, Investec Securities, Multi
Choice, Old Mutual Unit Trusts, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Mazars, Standard Bank
and African Monarch also made contributions to the success of the event.
All funds raised at the Golf Day finance the bursary programme which would, during
its 13th year of existence, have disbursed over R2.7 million to 388 tertiary level
students.
Former IAHET chairperson, Mustaq Brey, who now serves as a Trustee, thanked all
participants and sponsors for their involvement in the event which serves as the
primary source of funding for the bursary programme.
“With government introducing a new programme of free tertiary education for
students coming from households who have a combined income threshold of R350
000 we may in future have to reassess the bursary programme and possibility divert
the funds to our Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme which provides a
valuable service in areas like Gugulethu, Langa, Bonteheuwel and Mitchell’s Plain.
“Research has shown that what a child learns in his or her first six years is
extremely important in their development in later life so I’m very passionate about
the ECD programme which partners with organisations like the Centre for Early
Childhood Development (CECD), Grassroots and the Foundation for Community
Work (FCW).”
